The Saint Mary baseball team was eliminated from the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament on Thursday, falling 4-0 to Tabor College. USM ends the season with a 24-32 overall record.
Saint Mary allowed three runs in the third, when a leadoff walk and a defensive miscue gave the Blue Jays runners on first and second. Tabor got a timely double in the next at bat, pushing two runs across, and scored another on an RBI single. Another Spire error in the top of the ninth gave Tabor its other run.
USM managed just two hits in the game, one each by Stephen Maurin and Josh Barnes. Maurin started on the mound and took the loss in 2 1/3 innings of work, giving up three runs — only two earned — on five hits and two walks. Barnes closed the final 6 2/3 frames, giving up just two hits, one unearned run and two walks while striking out four.
