Team: Leavenworth High School cross country

Coach: Willis Willmeth

Key returners:
BOYS — Senior Nathan Salvatorelli, sophomore Kevin Remmenga, sophomore Jordan Boyce, sophomore Levi Denney, senior Jacob Colver, sophomore Josh Camarena
GIRLS — Sophomore Madison Schoen, senior Alex Farley, sophomore Lindi Young

Newcomers to watch: Sophomore Haley Hustead

Team Outlook: We are still a very young group, but we return a lot of talent from last year. I expect them to step up and show a lot of improvement this year. They have the ability to run well, it just has to come out. Right now we have about 45 kids out and that is a real plus, but I would like to have even more.

Big meets: I think every meet is big, since the places we run are always loaded with top runners every week. We’ll start the season Saturday at Manhattan.

Coach says: “We have more than 40 out, which is up from last year, and we’re still young. ... More than half of our team is sophomore or younger. We’ll look to see if some of those sophomores we had success last year as freshmen can come to run and continue to improve. I think we have talent in this group that can really do some things, but that depends on what they want to do. We have several with the goal to make it to state, and if they work hard, take it meet by meet and strive to get better every time out we’ll see where that takes us.” - Willmeth on the 2010 Pioneer cross country team.
