The Lansing Cavalry went 1-2 on Tuesday and Wednesday, splitting a doubleheader at Turner on Tuesday before falling to the Midwest Bruins by a single run in nine innings on Wednesday.
Wednesday’s game saw the Cavalry come back from a six-run deficit in the seventh inning, but Lansing ran out of steam as they lost 13-12 in nine. The Bruins, a team made up of players from several high schools in the Lawrence and Topeka area, is mostly older players that have already graduated from high school, Cavalry coach Jake Hanson explained. For his squad, Hanson added, it was their own mistakes that ended up costing them the game.
“We had some infield errors early on,” Hanson said. “We gave them a five-run inning and most of them were unearned. We actually played well. We’re still swinging it.”
