Two of the top teams in the American Legion Post 23 League went to war at Padilla Field on Wednesday evening and came out of the doubleheader in a stalemate.
Tonganoxie Post 41 survived the Easton Outlaw attack in game one, but just barely. The Outlaws had the tying run on third and the winning run on second with no out in the bottom of the sixth and final inning, but Post 41 starting pitcher Blaize Oeschlager dug deep and coaxed a harmless ground ball and two strikeouts to pull the 6-5 win out of the fire.
It looked like Tonganoxie would continue to roll on in game two as they jumped out to leads of 3-0 and 6-4, but they fell apart with seven walks and four errors in the top of the fourth inning, allowing nine Easton runs to cross the plate. Post 41 made a late comeback, but the charge fell short in a 14-10 defeat.
