Behind strong performances at the plate and on the mound from JT Core, Jeffrey George, and Judson Cole, coupled with a defense that committed only one error the entire game, the River Cats pounced on the Titans early and held on for a 7-5 upset victory over the third-place team in the Sandy Koufax League on Thursday evening at Sports Field.
George started the game on the mound and pitched three innings to earn the victory, and at the plate he walked once and scored two runs. Core went 1-for-2 with a walk and three runs, and on the mound he threw a scoreless inning of relief and struck out the side. Cole collected the save with two shutout innings and four strikeouts to go with his performance at the plate: 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI.
The River Cats improved to 3-6 on the season with the victory, while the Titans fell to 4-4. Both teams’ games have all been in league play.
