At Jefferson County North Friday, the Pleasant Ridge boys’ basketball team opened the contest on fire by putting up 17 points in the first quarter.

However, the Chargers one up its visitors by scoring 23 and eventually went on to defeat the Rams 63-51.

“They dominated the interior with their size and we had no answer,” Ridge coach Sean Murphy said. “They were also tremendous from the line, 21-of-27, and that is why they are a state caliber team.”

Following the first quarter fireworks, each team slowed down in the second and JCN took a 33-26 advantage into the half. But in the third, the Chargers began pounding the interior of Ridge’s defense and outscored the Rams 16-8 in the period.

In the fourth, PR made a push and put in three more points than JCN, but alas it was too little, too late.

“We fought back to six and I was really proud of the effort because we know we can hang with the big boys,” Murphy said. “But people who have size and know how to use that size will always be a concern for us.”

Dalton Warden was the team’s leader in scoring with 15, followed by Connor Culbertson’s 13 and Brandon Heim’s 10.

Caleb Morandy and Cody Heim each added five points while Nick Reckers pitched in three.
