Three Spires honored: Three USM softball players voted all-conference

Three members of the University of Saint Mary softball team were honored by the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference for their efforts in the 2011 season. Freshman Victoria Toplikar led the selections, getting tabbed for the second team as a utility player. Seniors Renee Brammer and Amie Riddle garnered recognition as honorable mention selections.
Toplikar, an Olathe native, spent most of her time as a first baseman for the Spires. She batted .277 for the year with a slugging percentage of .465. She totaled a team-high 28 hits and 14 RBIs with seven doubles, four home runs and five stolen bases. She was the only member of the USM team to hit more than one homer on the season.
Toplikar also had a fielding percentage of .960 and helped turn two double plays. She made 14 pitching appearances, recording one win and one save in 29 innings of work. She struck out 15 batters on the year.
Brammer was named to the honorable mention All-KCAC list as a third baseman. The senior from Tina, Mo. notching a .282 batting average and a .372 slugging percentage on the season with 22 hits that included four doubles and a home run. She batted in eight runs and stole seven bases, a tie for the team lead in the category. Brammer helped turn two double plays, and compiled a fielding percentage of .918.
Riddle took on most of the pitching duties for Saint Mary in her senior season, recording one win in 21 appearances and pitching 104 innings on the year. No other Spire pitcher threw more than 48 innings. A Tonganoxie native, Riddle registered 71 strikeouts on the season. She also batted .279 with a .344 slugging percentage. Her 17 hits included four doubles and eight RBIs.
The Saint Mary softball team finished the year 2-15 in the league and 4-32 overall.
