Cavalry wins tourney opener at Wathena

The Lansing Cavalry picked up a 7-6 win in eight innings in their opener of the Doniphan County tournament on Thursday evening, taking the extra inning win over Falls City (Neb.) after leading 6-0 early in the game.


The Cavalry got going early, plating one run in the top of the first inning. Austin Taylor led off with a single and Zak Haller blasted a double that hit the top of the fence to move him to third. Jason Wahaus earned the RBI when Taylor scored on his sacrifice fly. Lansing pushed the lead to 4-0 in the third. Parsons doubled to start this inning, but was out in the next at bat on a fielder’s choice by Taylor. Haller hit his second double of the game to score Taylor and Wahaus knocked a single to plate Haller in the next at bat. Scott Moore rounded out the Lansing scoring in the inning with an RBI single.
