During a legislative update Friday, it didn’t take before local lawmakers were asked about a state smoking ban.

A measure banning smoking in Kansas restaurants, bars and other public places recently passed the House of Representatives, sending it the to governor for his signature.

“This is something the public really wanted,” said state Rep. Marti Crow, a Leavenworth Democrat who represents the 41st District.

Crow, who voted for the bill, spoke Friday during a legislative update at the Carnegie Arts Center. The event was hosted by the Leavenworth-Lansing Area Chamber of Commerce.

State Reps. Melanie Meier and Connie O’Brien and state Sen. Kelly Kultala also attended.
