Two teenage sisters were arrested Monday evening in Leavenworth after they allegedly drew knives on each other during an argument, a police spokesman said.

The incident was reported to police at about 6:45 p.m. Monday in the 2100 block of South Fifth Street.

A 17-year-old girl is reported to have made an attempt to steal and pawn her younger sister’s PlayStation video game system. An altercation ensued between the 17-year-old girl and her 14-year-old sister, according to Leavenworth Police Chief Pat Kitchens.

“Apparently the older sister got a kitchen knife,” Kitchens said. “And then the younger sister got a kitchen knife.”

At some point, the 14-year-old girl allegedly threw her knife at her sister. The knife hit the older girl in the arm, causing what Kitchens said was a minor laceration.

“Both kids were arrested and taken to (the Juvenile Detention Center) for aggravated assault and battery,” Kitchens said.
