Hello Five Trails runners — Happy Thanksgiving!
We celebrate you and the gift of running you give yourself, your family and even us race coordinators. Speaking of races, our Five Trails Half-Marathon is only 180 days away.
Don't be sidelined by busyness. Book your reservation at the start line now. We want you training and running the race of your dreams on May 19. Yep, it's that time of year when dreams come true and more often than not, they come true because of hard work.
Come train with us — our success rate is over the moon. We invite runners of every shade, shape and speed to train with us.
We provide 16 weeks of training, a personalized weekly plan and a support group run on Saturday mornings. The fee is $129 which covers race entry, coach's fee and a custom, totally technical training tee for the Five Trails Half-Marathon.
Begin Black Friday now and give the gift that really does help make dreams come true by e-mailing fivetrailsrun@yahoo.com for your entry form. Meet us at the High Noon Saloon and Brewery, 206 Choctaw on Jan. 9 at 6:30 p.m. to learn more about our race.
Our coach will be there to introduce himself and answer your questions. The first group run is Feb. 2. It will be an easy three miles. Warm up with your pre-training now. Come early and join us for a burger.
Some new things we are doing include 10 push-ups every time we check our Facebook page. As for the race, if you can't be in Leavenworth this year, join our ghost run.
In past years, runners from Hawaii, Michigan and Afghanistan ran alongside us a few thousand miles away.
Ghost runners will be mailed a bib number before race day. The medals and race T-shirts will follow. Registration is open at www.active.com/ or by contacting fivetrailsrun@yahoo.com.
We also got jingle. That's right — we jingle and so can you. We will be at the High Noon Saloon Rudolph's Red Nose Run on Dec. 1 for 7.2 tough miles.
Come see us and claim your bells so you can really run that race with bells on your toes.
This is worth repeating — we are the big run in the small town. We have the big hills in the flat state. Yep, that's us. The Five Trails Half Marathon and 10K is the perfect blend of everything runners want.
Easy access to the start/finish line, painless parking and indoor plumbing. Plenty of course observation points for your fans to cheer you along the way and volunteers who do it all for you. And remember, our name honors those rugged, tenacious pioneers that shaped the frontier. It is not a trail run.
Bounty offered of $100 for the new Half Marathon course record. Fellas, you are looking at 1:16:52 and gals, it is 1:30:18.
The Five Trails Half Marathon and 10K is possible because of our great sponsors. The professionals at MeMa's Old Fashioned Bakery really know how to make their customers smile. Great desserts and a chicken salad divine.
We love sponsors but we have special love for sponsors who are "streakers"; Michelle Knight, RE/MAX Action Realty has been with us since our first year. A streak to be proud of. She sponsors, trains and races.
The Leavenworth County Humane Society is new this year. What an awesome service they provide. Hackworth Family Eye Care sees you, the runner. We welcome them back.
More sponsors will be highlighted next month. Check out the back of the T-shirt from the 2012 race —we like those guys!
I think that is all for now. As always, any questions, concerns, comments you have or if you just want to chat, drop us an e-mail at fivetrailsrun@yahoo.com.
See you on the roads.
