The body of a Leavenworth man found in an alley Monday showed no signs of foul play, a police spokesman said.

The body was found around 9:30 a.m. in an alley south of a power transfer station near 10th and Spruce streets. The body has been identified as a 54-year-old man. His name has not been released.

Leavenworth Police Chief Pat Kitchens said police received a report of someone who appeared to be sleeping or possibly in distress. Police responded and discovered the man was dead.

An autopsy is scheduled for today, which Kitchens said is a standard procedure.

"At this point, it's still under review," Kitchens said of the man's death.

The chief said it could take five to six weeks before police learn the conclusions of the medical examiner.
