Tree lighting planned for Sunday

The Lansing mayor will help kick off the Christmas season this weekend with an annual tree lighting ceremony. The Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting will take place at 6 p.m. Sunday at Lansing Middle School, 220 Lion Lane.

Johnson-Fritz sentenced to five years in prison

A woman has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison for her role in soliciting the murder of an inmate at the Lansing Correctional Facility. Renee Johnson-Fritz, 44, Kansas City, Missouri, was sentenced Wednesday in Leavenworth County District Court to 59 months, or four years and 11 months.

SCOUTS VISIT CAPITOL

Members of Leavenworth Scouts BSA Troop 167 recently visited the Kansas State Capitol to learn how state government works. Sen. Jeff Pittman led the group on a tour of the two legislative chambers and had the Scouts participate in a roleplaying exercise to see how laws are formulated, debated, amended and ultimately voted on in the state Legislature.
