A car fire in Lansing also damaged a nearby house and another vehicle, a fire department spokesman said.

The fire was reported at 12:44 a.m. Thursday at 601 Holiday Drive.

Rick Huhn, chief of Leavenworth County Fire District No. 1, said a Ford Econoline Van became fully engulfed.

The van was parked next to a home, and heat from the fire melted siding on the house and caused a window to break. Heat also melted blinds in one room and smoke caused damage throughout the house.

The fire also melted paint and broke windows on a nearby pickup truck, Huhn said.

The fire was reported by a passerby.

People were sleeping in the home at the time. They made it safely out of the house.

Huhn said the van's engine reportedly had been overheating several hours earlier, but the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
