After being knocked unconscious by a customer, a taxi driver woke up to find his cab on fire, a police spokesman said.

The cab apparently had struck a parked vehicle and caught fire after the driver was knocked out. The driver also reported to police that he had been robbed of $30, according to Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.

The incident was reported at 12:55 a.m. Wednesday in the 500 block of Olive Street.

The cab driver, a 53-year-old man, reported that he picked up someone from a bar. The customer asked the driver to stop in the 500 block of Olive Street.

The driver told police he was struck in the back of the head, causing him to lose consciousness, Nicodemus said.

The first officer to arrive at the scene extinguished the fire.

The driver was treated at the scene by Leavenworth County EMS personnel for injuries he suffered when he was struck. He declined to be transported to the hospital, Nicodemus said.

The suspect was described as a white man in his late 40s. His hair was dark and cut short.

He wore jeans and a tan coat.
