A local Catholic parish and civic club are set to kick off a week of Irish celebrations with a pair of Irish-themed events.

Immaculate Conception-St. Joseph Parish will host its 18th annual Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner & Pot O’ Gold Raffle on Sunday. That will be followed Monday by the 38th annual Leavenworth Rotary’s annual Irish Stew Dinner.

The corned beef and cabbage dinner will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Miege Hall at Immaculate Conception Church, 711 N. 5th St.

The Irish Stew Dinner will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the Riverfront Community Center.

The events are being held prior to the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Leavenworth on March 17.

Tickets for the corned beef and cabbage dinner are $10 for adults and $3 for children. Carryouts are available.

The event will feature, of course, corned beef and cabbage, and several different kinds of side dishes and beverages, including green beer.

“That’s always a popular thing,” said Theresa Williams, chair of the dinner committee.

The event also will feature a $1,000 raffle and silent auction.

Proceeds from the event benefit the parish operating budget. Recent additional parish outreach responsibilities include a free monthly community meal at the church and providing assistance to the Leavenworth Interfaith Community of Hope.

“We would appreciate any help you could give us in the way of a charitable donation to help fund our cash raffle and silent auction,” said Father David McEvoy in a press release. “If this is not possible, please accept our thanks for your time and consideration of this request.”

The Rotary’s annual Irish Stew Dinner is the organization’s biggest fundraiser of the year.

Rotary President Tamara Sevcik said approximately 500 people buy tickets and attend the event each year.

“Everyone is welcome,” Sevcik said. “Come out and eat, drink and be merry.”

The event is always held on the Monday prior to St. Patrick’s Day.

Sevcik said those attending the dinner are encouraged to wear green apparel.

The event will feature Irish dancers, music, raffles and a silent auction.

The menu will include Irish stew as well as green beer.

“Everybody loves the green beer,” Sevcik said.

Proceeds go to the Leavenworth Rotary Foundation and help support local youth programs, including scholarships.

Tickets are $7 in advance and $8 at the door on the night of the event.
