The organizer of a fundraiser for Leavenworth museums said the annual event plays an important role in keeping the museums open.

The 13th annual A Taste of Leavenworth, featuring more than a dozen local restaurants, was held Saturday at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 55.

Del Sanders, president of the Leavenworth Historical Museum Association, said 100 percent of the proceeds from the event will go to the museums.

He said this year’s event raised approximately $18,000.

“We can’t thank the community, the merchants and caterers enough,” Sanders said.

The Leavenworth Historical Museum Association consists of the First City Museum, the C.W. Parker Carousel Museum and the Fred Harvey Museum.

Those in attendance voted for their favorite vendor. The People’s Choice award went to Meriwether’s Coffee Shop and Cafe.

Numerous items were included in a silent auction at the event. The band First City Strings performed.

“The food was very good, we had some really good items in the auction and the music was good,” Sanders said. “We look forward to everyone coming back next year.”

He said people who purchased auction items and have not yet picked them up can do so at the First City Museum, 743 Delaware St.
