Advance voting for the Aug. 7 primary election begins today, the county clerk said.

County Clerk Janet Klasinski said voters can visit the Clerk’s Office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to vote in advance. She said advance voting will continue at her office until noon Aug. 6.

The Clerk’s Office is located at the Leavenworth County Courthouse, 300 Walnut St.

Klasinski said she also will schedule an advance voting event in southern Leavenworth County. The county clerk said she did not yet have this event scheduled, but it will take place during the week of July 30.

Klasinski said her office also will be mailing out advance ballots today to people who have requested them.

As of Tuesday morning, her office had received more than 300 requests for advance ballots.

Klasinski is predicting a 22 percent voter turnout in Leavenworth County for the primary election.

Several contested races will appear on ballots for the Aug. 7 primary including Republican and Democratic primaries for governor.

The deadline for registering to vote ahead of the primary was Monday.

The general election will take place Nov. 6.
