A Leavenworth woman whose body was recovered from the Missouri River is believed to have committed suicide, a police official said.

The suspected cause of Brittany J. Fields’ death was announced Wednesday afternoon by Leavenworth Police Chief Pat Kitchens.

“The Leavenworth Police Department has completed the initial stages of our investigation," Kitchens said in an email.

Fields’ vehicle was found unattended Friday morning near the city’s boat ramp on the Missouri River. And someone reportedly had spotted some of Fields’ personal belongings at the boat ramp.

The following day, Fields’ body was recovered from the Missouri River.

Fields was 22.
