This week, Hutchinson residents had business on their minds. Here’s answers to two commerce questions.
Q: With Kwik Shop and Pic Quick having new ownership, when are they going to change their signage to represent their new name?
Is a convenience store known by any other name still as convenient? For Pic Quick, yes, though for Kwik Shop, some convenient aspects – like the Fuel Points program – have changed.
The change occurred in March 2017, so signage at five Yesway locations has been updated to reflect that change. Those locations in Hutchinson are at 1000 West 30th Ave., 1630 East 30th Ave., 901 E. 11th Ave., 428 E. 4th Ave. and 1905 E. 4th Ave.
Only one location still reflects the PQ history. Longtime Pic Quik owners Dan and Debbie Fast retained ownership of a single location at 800 S. Main St., which they rebranded South End PQ, and to extend their third-generation family operation. Their sign still says “Pic Quick.”
Now, Kwik Shop won’t be changing any signage, though the stores are now owned by a Europe-based convenience store group.
According to a press release announcing the April 2018 sale, “EG Group will establish their North American headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio and continue to operate stores under their established banner names.”
Fuel points can still be redeemed at those locations but are no longer earned there.
Q: Just curious if the Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce has been in contact with Sirloin Stockade executives or Golden Corral executives regarding the closed Kansas Buffet facility? Sirloin Stockade appeared to do well for many years. I’d hate to see Hutchinson lose this kind of restaurant.
I started with Debra Teufel, president and CEO of Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce. She explained that she can’t comment on activity on that particular building, but generally, the Chamber answers some retail inquiries and promotes locations for sale through the Chamber website.
“To my knowledge, the current owners of the building have not provided us with any information about its availability for sale or lease,” Teufel wrote in an email response.
Buildings and sites are listed on the Chamber’s economic development website at www.greaterhutch.com. The site is hosted through a partnership with Prairie Land REALTORS/Mid-Kansas MLS and the Chamber’s Zoom Prospector tool.
“If you know of any commercial building or property that is not included, please email our Greater Hutch economic development team at email@example.com or call us at 620-662-3391,” Teufel wrote. “If any local entrepreneurs have interest in opening a business in this or other locations, we’d welcome the opportunity to connect them with resources about starting a business as well.”
