After being on the rise last week, the waters of the Missouri River have started to recede in the Leavenworth area.

After being on the rise last week, the waters of the Missouri River have started to recede in the Leavenworth area.

The river crested Sunday afternoon without reaching its flood stage for the Leavenworth area, according to the National Weather Service.

The river crested at a depth of 17.68 feet Sunday. The river does not enter its minor flood stage until it reaches a depth of 20 feet.

By 1 p.m. Monday, the river was at 17.32 feet, according to the National Weather Service.

Flood warnings remained in effect Monday for areas north of Leavenworth including the Missouri River at St. Joseph, Missouri.
