A Leavenworth man has pleaded not guilty to charges that he battered his infant son.

Robert F. Green, 22, entered the plea during his arraignment Wednesday in Leavenworth County District Court.

He is charged with two counts of aggravated battery. The crimes are alleged to have occurred between Aug. 20 and Sept. 5 in Leavenworth while Green’s son was left in the defendant's care.

Green's arraignment had been scheduled for last week. But it was continued until Wednesday because the judge who normally presides over the case was unavailable.

District Judge Michael Gibbens was still unavailable Wednesday. But District Judge Gerald Kuckelman, who was filling in for Gibbens, proceeded with the arraignment.

Kuckelman scheduled a trial for Feb. 11. He said 2.5 days will be set aside for the trial.

A pretrial conference is scheduled for Dec. 14.

Green remains in custody at the Leavenworth County Jail.
