Are you in the mood to find a new book to read – or maybe several?

Then the Leavenworth Public Library is the place to be this weekend.

The library will host its annual Holiday Book Sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.

All books, videos and music CDs are $1 each.

The library is also holding Saturday with Santa from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday for children 12-under.

Each child will receive a book during the free event. There will also be crafts, activities and snacks available.

Cindy McGuire, program and marketing coordinator at the library, said patrons donate books to the library throughout the year. Some donated books are the same as books already in the library’s inventory.

“We’ve been saving up the nicer books. They make great gifts,” McGuire said. “Most of the books are like they are brand new.”

She said several hundred books will be on display to purchase in the lobby area of the library. Attendees pay for their purchases at the circulation desk.

The book selections will include genres such as fiction, nonfiction, mystery, drama, children’s and more.

The books will be organized and displayed in different genres to make shopping for a certain kind of book easier.

The book sale is a fundraiser for the library. All money raised will go toward children and adult programming.

“The goal is to make sure everyone has access to inexpensive books and to clear out some space where the books are being stored,” McGuire said.

The event was held as a one-day affair last year. Approximately 500 books were sold, she said. This year’s book sale will cover two days, so McGuire is hopeful that more books can be sold and more money can be raised for programming at the library.
