Two months ago, Allanna Tresner, a hairstylist in Leavenworth, was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer.

The 26-year-old woman is married and has an 18-month-old daughter.

She has begun cancer treatments, and to help defray medical costs, her employer is hosting a fundraiser this weekend.

Darin Mann, owner of Tom & Ann’s Haircolorists, is hosting an event called Cut-A-Thon for Allanna from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

The hair salon is located at 101 S. Broadway St.

Mann and his employees – including Tresner – will do styling tasks for a minimum $20 donation for each service. Donations will go directly to Tresner and her family.

“She has insurance but this will help pay for associated costs,” Mann said. “And she will be off work some.”

Mann said Tresner has worked for him for about five months, but he has known her and her family for several years.

“She has a sweet spirit and is real bubbly,” he said. “And her attitude has been really great.”

Mann said the business did a similar fundraiser for an employee about 10 years ago. He said the event raised $7,000 in one day.

No appointment is necessary to take part in the fundraiser, which will include Mann’s staff and three other stylists from different salons.

“It’s nice to see that sense of community,” Mann said.

The Kansas City Chiefs host the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship beginning at 5:40 p.m. Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.

Mann said the game will be shown on the salon’s television.

Tom & Ann’s Haircolorists has been in operation since 1959 in Leavenworth.
