Wreaths that were laid at the graves at Leavenworth’s two national cemeteries during the Wreaths Across America event in December will be picked up on Saturday.
Wreaths will be picked up from 10-11:30 a.m. at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery. After the wreaths are picked up, there will be a luncheon at Frontier Chapel, 625 Thomas Ave. on the fort.
There will be games, free items, raffles and other events during the luncheon.
Volunteers will need to show valid identification at the main gate upon arriving at the military installation.
For more information about the wreath sweep at the fort, contact Diana Pitts at email@example.com or 913-306-7324.
Wreaths will be picked up at Leavenworth National Cemetery from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cemetery is located at 150 Muncie Road.
Volunteers are asked to pick up only wreaths that were placed during the Wreaths Across America event. All other wreaths or decorations should be left in place.
The wreaths pick-up event will also kick off the cemetery’s quest to reach at least 10,000 wreaths in 2019.
Leavenworth National Cemetery has more than 36,000 graves. The cemetery would like to someday be able to lay a wreath on every grave during the Wreaths Across America event.
During Saturday’s pick-up, volunteers are invited to sponsor more wreaths for this year.

Attempts were made to do the wreath sweep on recent weekends, but volunteers were forced to cancel plans due to inclement weather.
