Police and Fire Department officials are investigating an incident in which a Leavenworth woman reportedly was battered and a mobile home was damaged by fire.

The incident was reported Feb. 8 at 1:08 p.m. at a mobile home park at Woodmoor Court.

A woman reported that she and a male acquaintance had argued. During the altercation, the man allegedly battered the woman several times and held a pillow over her face, making it hard for her to breath, according to Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.

The suspect also allegedly took the woman's cellphone and broke it.

"At some point, the suspect left and the victim realized the trailer was on fire," Nicodemus said.

The woman attempted to put out the fire, but the smoke was too much for her. She left the mobile home and went to a neighbor's residence.

The woman later was taken to the hospital.

"We searched for the suspect," Nicodemus said, but police did not locate the man.

Nicodemus said the fire is being investigated by the Leavenworth Fire Department.
