Shooting victim remains in hospital
Authorities are still looking for a man who has been identified as a person of interest in connection to a shooting in Easton, an official with the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office said.
Leavenworth County Undersheriff Jim Sherley said Thursday that authorities had not yet located Daniel W. Owens.
Officials with the Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday that they wanted to speak with Owens in connection to the shooting.
The shooting was reported at about 8:15 a.m. Wednesday at 215 S. Third St. in Easton.
A 58-year-old man, whose name has not been released, was wounded. He was flown by helicopter to the hospital.
Sherley believed the man was in fair condition Thursday.
Sherley said investigators believe the shooting occurred during an altercation inside of the residence. The victim apparently knows the person who shot him.
The Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office has not released a description or photograph of Owens, 43. But Sherley said Owens has ties to the Easton, Leavenworth and Kansas City, Kansas, areas.
Sherley said authorities also continue to look for a truck that Owens may be driving. That vehicle is described as a maroon older model Chevrolet pickup truck. The truck may have a Missouri license plate but the tag number is unknown. The bed of the truck may have a toolbox with a diamond tread.
Anyone with information about the shooting or Owens’ whereabouts is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 913-682-5724.
