With snow expected today, a winter weather advisory has been issued for Leavenworth County.

The advisory was scheduled to go into effect at 7 a.m. today. It is scheduled to remain in effect until 9 p.m.

Kim Buchanan, deputy director of Leavenworth County Emergency Management, said three to six inches of snow are possible for the area.

She said light snow is expected in the morning with heavier snow over the noon hour.

Temperatures in the area reached the low 50s Thursday. But temperatures dropped during the afternoon hours as a cold front moved through the area, according to the National Weather Service.

Today’s high is expected to be near 21 degrees.

Saturday’s high is expected to be near 27 degrees, but wind chill values may range between -1 and 9.

There is another chance for snow Saturday night.

Buchanan said residents may see one to two inches of additional snow Saturday night and Sunday.
