A downtown Leavenworth restaurant has been recognized for its breakfast menu.

The Depot recently was honored by The Daily Meal website as having the best breakfasts in the state of Kansas.

Mike and Mary Nachbar, owners of the restaurant, opened The Depot on Aug. 6, 2015, after a former restaurant closed at that location months earlier. The restaurant is located inside of a former train station constructed in 1887.

Items on the breakfast menu each have railroad-themed names such as the Super Chief, the Train Wreck and the Casey Jones.

Mary Nachbar said popular items on the breakfast menu include smoked chicken hash Benedict, chicken and waffles and donut muffins.

The honor was a part of the website’s nationwide recognition of the top breakfast spots in each state.

“It’s wonderful. It’s humbling,” Mary Nachbar said. “It’s fantastic to get that kind of recognition.”

Mike Nachbar said he is unsure how the list was determined but surmises that it is a result of high online rankings by customers on websites such as Yelp.

The Daily Meal is an online website that features food news, cooking tips, recipes and more. The website posts lists of such things as the top hamburger places, top pizza restaurants, top dining destinations and more.

The Depot is located at 781 Shawnee St. For more information, call the restaurant at 913-297-0361.
