Leavenworth authorities are investigating a shooting that left a woman wounded, a police spokesman said.

The incident was reported at 8:21 p.m. Monday. The shooting reportedly took place in the 2900 block of Martin Luther King Drive.

Police learned of the shooting after being contacted by a representative of Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas. A 33-year-old woman went to the hospital to be treated for gunshot wounds.

The woman reported the incident had occurred in Leavenworth, according to Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.

Nicodemus said the shooting apparently occurred at a doorstep at an apartment complex. The woman was shot in her left leg and right wrist. The injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Nicodemus said police are still investigating what happened. Investigators also are trying to identify a suspect.
