Two people were taken to the hospital following a collision on the Kansas Turnpike in southern Leavenworth County, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report.

Two people were taken to the hospital following a collision on the Kansas Turnpike in southern Leavenworth County, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report.

The crash was reported at 8:05 p.m. Thursday in the westbound lanes of the turnpike, which also is Interstate 70.

A 21-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, man was driving a tow truck. He had activated the vehicle’s emergency lights and was attempting to turn from an inside shoulder through an opening in a median wall. The truck reportedly was rear-ended by a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder driven by a 55-year-old Manhattan man.

The tow truck driver was transported to the University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kansas, to be treated for what was believed to be a minor injury, according to the KHP report.

The other driver was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital to be treated for what also was believed to be a minor injury.
