A man who is charged with attempted murder in connection to an Easton shooting appeared in court Friday with his attorney.

Daniel W. Owens, 43, Kansas City, Kansas, is charged with attempted second-degree murder.

The crime is alleged to have occurred Feb. 13 at a residence in Easton.

Leavenworth County Undersheriff Jim Sherley said investigators believe the victim, a 58-year-old man, was shot during an altercation inside the residence.

Court records indicate Owens initially was appointed an attorney to represent him in the case.

But he appeared Friday in Leavenworth County District Court with a different attorney, Jacquelyn Rokusek.

“I haven’t had the opportunity to review the discovery (evidence) yet,” Rokusek said.

District Judge Michael Gibbens scheduled a status hearing for April 10.

Owens remains in custody at the Leavenworth County Jail. His bond has been set at $600,000.
