What is the Blue Wave Gala that the Leavenworth County Democratic Party will be hosting?  When and where will it be?
The Blue Wave Gala hosted by the Leavenworth County Democratic Party is the organization’s spring fundraiser.  The dinner dance will be Saturday, April 27, from 6 p.m. to midnight at June’s Northland, 614 Pottawatomie, Leavenworth.

Who will be the emcee and who will be the speakers?  Which national office holder will be attending, and is there excitement among local Dems that this person will be at the gala?
Former U.S. Attorney for Kansas Barry Grissom will serve as the event’s emcee, and first-term U.S. Congresswoman Sharice Davids will be the featured speaker.  Ms. Davids spent a number of growing-up years in Leavenworth, so is familiar with the community.  Her promise to share her experiences in the government after her first few months in office has excited local Dems, who are eager to hear the freshman congresswoman’s thoughts and reflections.
Kansas District 41 Rep. Jeff Pittman, Leavenworth, will address the attendees, as well, noting the highlights of his third Kansas legislative session so far.  Leavenworth Mayor Jermaine Wilson has been invited to share his story of reformative change and growth that has received much media attention and has been televised nationally.
In addition to the speakers, there will be a cocktail dinner dance, a silent auction and a fun photo booth.  Well-known local band, Penny Black, will provide the evening's music.   A highlight of the event will be the presentations of The Leavenworth County Democrat of the Year and Young Democrat of the Year.

Is this one of the major fundraisers of the year for the Democrats? What other fundraisers will the group host leading up to the 2020 election?
The spring gala represents the largest fundraiser of the organization’s year.  However, the group hosts the LVCO Democratic Party Picnic, Rally and Fundraiser every September, which rotates among parks in Leavenworth, Basehor and Tonganoxie.  The LVCO Democratic Party’s Holiday Celebration in early December has a fundraising component as well.

Why is it important for people in the community to care about local and national politics and get involved and support the party of their choice?
Putting aside distracting theatrics and wrangling portrayed in the media, at its core, politics reflect one’s values.
Most of us have a vision of what we want for the type of government, laws and policies that will directly affect us.
That could be in our personal lives, our families, our schools, our health care systems, our businesses, our local communities, our state, our nation, even our world.  Studying the mission and platforms of both parties and their positions on unique issues of importance to us will equip us to be informed voters.  Once informed, we can make intelligent decisions about what candidates and party most align with our values.  We can then choose to support and become actively involved to promote those candidates.
