A Leavenworth man was shot while he was at home watching television, a police spokesman said.

Investigators believe the shooter fired the shots from an alley outside the residence.

The incident was reported at 9:13 p.m. Monday in the 700 block of Kiowa Street.

Police officers responded to a report of shots fired. Officers canvassed the area and encountered the victim, who was inside his residence.

The 22-year-old man had been struck by a bullet in the abdomen, according to Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.

The victim was taken to the hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police found shell casings outside the residence. Police believe the shots were fired by a handgun.

Nicodemus said investigators have no description of the shooter.

A shot also was reportedly fired into a house over the weekend on North Broadway. But Nicodemus said he does not know if the two cases are related.
