Three people were taken to the hospital after a car went airborne and struck a tree in Lansing, a police spokesman said.

The crash was reported at 2:28 a.m. Tuesday at Kansas 5 Highway and Eisenhower Road.

A man was driving south on the highway in a 2013 Honda Accord when the car went airborne. The vehicle traveled about 90 feet through the air. After landing, the car struck a tree, according to Lt. Michael Dickason of the Lansing Police Department.

“It was absolutely destroyed,” Dickason said of the car.

The driver had what Dickason described as minimal injuries. The car’s two passengers suffered injuries that were “severe but not life-threatening.”

Dickason said the driver is being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
