Senior citizens in Leavenworth County were honored once again at the Council on Aging’s annual Senior Citizens Picnic on Friday at the Fraternal Order of Eagles 55.

The event was held in honor of Older Americans Month, which is celebrated each year in May.

The event, which has been hosted by the Council on Aging for more than 30 years, included door prizes, raffles and a sloppy Joe lunch.

The band Bent Knee Gospel was the featured musical entertainment at the event.

Each year, the Council on Aging features many functions and programs for people 50-over in Leavenworth County, to include nutrition programs, seasonal celebrations, wellness programs and transportation assistance.

The agency will hold its annual U Price It Indoor Flea Market at 9 a.m. July 20 at theFraternal Order of Eagles 55.

The event will include breakfast and other refreshments.

The event also will include bingo, raffles and giveaways.

All proceeds from the event go to the Council on Aging’s Senior Express transportation service.
