A Leavenworth woman discovered a bullet on the floorboard of her car and later realized there was a bullet hole in the roof of the vehicle, according to a police spokesman.

The incident was reported at 5:14 p.m. Monday in the 1400 block of Ottawa Street.

Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department, said the victim found the bullet on the floorboard of a Kia Forte but did not notice the damage from the bullet hole until a couple of days later.

Nicodemus said he does not know if the bullet was fired into the vehicle or if the bullet had been shot into the air and then struck the vehicle as it came down.

No one was inside the car when it was struck by the bullet.
