Lansing High School and the University of Saint Mary will be celebrating homecoming this week.

And each school has activities planned.

Ahead of Friday’s football game, Lansing High School will have a Homecoming Extravaganza on Wednesday. The Extravaganza will include a parade and street fair.

Wes Cackler, a counselor and senior class sponsor at the high school, said the parade is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the high school, 1412 147th St.

Cackler said the parade will travel through a nearby neighborhood and then return to the high school.

The street fair is scheduled for 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in a southwest parking lot of the high school.

Cackler said the event will feature several food trucks as well as other activities.

He said the Homecoming Extravaganza is being planned by students.

“Our (Student Council) group is planning the whole thing,” he said.

Lansing High School’s homecoming football game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at the high school. The Lions will be taking on the Leavenworth High School Pioneers.

The University of Saint Mary will have its homecoming football game Saturday. But other events are planned ahead of the game.

The university will have a Dig Pink Night in conjunction with a women’s volleyball game at 7 p.m. Friday at Ryan Sports Center at the USM campus, 4100 S. Fourth St.

The event is intended to raise awareness about breast cancer, and people are encouraged to wear pink.

A bonfire and sand volleyball social are planned at 9 p.m. Friday at the Maria Hall fire pit, according to USM’s website.

A homecoming tailgate event is planned from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at USM’s Berkel Memorial Stadium. The event will include a barbecue, bounce houses, music, face painting, games and giveaways.

The football game is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the stadium. The Spires will take on the Sterling College Warriors.
