A man accidentally shot himself in the toe in southern Leavenworth County, according to an official with the Sheriff’s Office.

A man accidentally shot himself in the toe in southern Leavenworth County, according to an official with the Sheriff’s Office.

The incident reportedly occurred at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on a bridge on Golden Road in the Linwood area.

Deputies with the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office met with the victim, a 23-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, man, at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas.

The man told deputies he had been shooting recreationally with friends in Leavenworth County. He attempted to dry fire a pistol he apparently thought was not loaded. But he accidentally shot himself in the big toe of his right foot, according to Leavenworth County Undersheriff Jim Sherley.

The victim was taken to the hospital by friends.
