A section of Desoto Road in Lansing should reopen to traffic today by the end of the business day.

The road has been closed since March as part of a road improvement project.

Even though the road will be reopening today, work on the project has not been completed. Work on the project is only being reduced for the winter season.

Lansing Public Works Director Mike Spickelmier said crews will be doing mostly cleanup work after the road is reopened today. And this work will not require a closure of the road during the winter season.

“You will still see some work out there, but it will not impact traffic,” he said.

At some point in the spring, crews will resume a full work schedule. They will be focusing on the intersection of Desoto and Eisenhower roads. Improvements to the intersection are planned as part of the project.

Spickelmier said the start of the intersection work will depend on the weather.

“We do not have a date set at this time,” he said.

This phase of the project is scheduled to be completed next year.
