It appears the Christmas season is now in full swing. And there will be a number of holiday-related events this weekend in the Leavenworth area.

Several events will take place at the Riverfront Community Center and across the street at the C.W. Parker Carousel Museum.

The Leavenworth Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor an annual Breakfast with Santa event from 8-11 a.m. Saturday in the Riverview Room of the Riverfront Community Center, 123 S. Esplanade St.

Tickets are $6 in advance and $7 at the door for adults. Tickets for children who are 12 and younger will be $5 in advance and $6 at the door, according to the city of Leavenworth’s website.

The annual German Christmas Market will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the gymnasium at the Riverfront Community Center.

There is no admission fee for the event, which is sponsored by the St. Paul Lutheran Church and School as well as Backpack Buddies of Leavenworth, according to information posted on a Leavenworth Convention and Visitors Bureau website.

The annual Children’s Small Mall will take place 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the C.W. Parker Carousel Museum, 320 S. Esplanade St.

The event is designed for children who are 3 to 13 years of age. Children will be assisted as they shop for family members and friends. The prices of the gifts available are $3, $5 and $7, according to information posted on the Leavenworth CVB website.

Many other events are scheduled at other locations around the community.

One of the local activities is the University of Saint Mary production of the “Nutcracker.”

Public performances will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday at USM’s Xavier Theatre, 4100 S. Fourth St. There also will be a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Saturday, according to John Shultz, USM vice president for marketing and admissions.

Tickets are $10 each for adults and $5 for children or high school students. Tickets can be purchased in advance by visiting stmary.edu/TheatreSchedule or calling 913-758-6152.

Admission is free for USM students with student identification.

The Leavenworth Main Street will have its monthly Alive After Five program from 5-8 p.m. Thursday in downtown Leavenworth. This month’s program is called Winter Wine Walk. Fort Leavenworth will have its annual Tree Lighting Ceremony from 4-6 p.m. Friday at Zais Park.

The event will feature music, carriage rides and Santa Claus. The lighting of the tree will take place at about 5:45 p.m., according to the Fort Leavenworth Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation website.

Church of the Open Door, 4800 S. 20th St., will be hosting Walk Through Bethlehem from 5-10 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The live, interactive program takes place in Bethlehem at the time of the birth of Jesus, according the church’s website.

The program is free but people are required to register the same evening of their tour. Doors open for registration shortly before 5 p.m.

The Leavenworth County Artists Association will host the Moon Magic Holiday Gala from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Heritage Center, 109 Delaware St.

Entry to the art show is free, according to information posted on the Leavenworth CVB website.

The annual children’s Christmas show “Saving Mr. Winslow’s Christmas Tree Farm” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Performing Arts Center, 500 Delaware St. There also will be a 2 p.m. performance Sunday. Tickets are $5 each, according to a website for the River City Community Players theater group.

The 312th Army Band will provide a free holiday concert at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Lewis and Clark Center on Fort Leavenworth. Doors will open at noon, according to the Fort Leavenworth Family and MWR website.

The Leavenworth County Historical Society will host the annual Leavenworth Vintage Homes Tour from 1-6 p.m. Sunday. The tour will feature several homes in the city.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 the day of the tour, according to a website for the Historical Society.

The Richard Allen Cultural Center and Museum is sponsoring A Christmas Tea event from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the USPLK Employees Federal Credit Union, 16055 Santa Fe Trail.

Tickets are $20 each for adults and $10 for children. No tickets will be sold at the door.

The University of Saint Mary will present its 41st annual Christmas Vespers Concert at 7 p.m. Sunday at Annunciation Chapel on USM’s Leavenworth campus, 4100 S. Fourth St.

The concert is free but seating is limited, according to Shultz.

The Kansas City Kansas Community College Pioneer Career Center will host an evening Breakfast with Santa event. The free event will take place from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the center, 1901 Spruce St.
