Lyons man dies in single-vehicle accident
MCPHERSON COUNTY — A 66-year-old Lyons man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday morning in McPherson County in central Kansas, authorities said.
The fatality victim was identified as Robert Bishop.
The crash was reported at 11:35 a.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of Plum, just south of Arrowhead Road. The location was about 5 miles north of Hutchinson.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol's online crash log, Bishop was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Impala south on Plum when for an unknown reason the car entered the west ditch. The car then re-entered the roadway then entered the east ditch before striking a tree.
Bishop was pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol said he was wearing a seat belt.
Man arrested after fleeing police on foot
SALINA — A Salina man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after seeing police and fleeing on foot.
Salina Police said at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday officers were called to 1664 Beverly Drive after a report that David Eklund, 20, of Salina, was there. Eklund has a probation violation warrant out of Saline County District Court.
Police said before officers arrived, they received information that Eklund was at the Ambassador Hotel, 1616 W. Crawford St. As officers approached the hotel, they saw Eklund, who saw the officers and began running west away from the officers along the Golden Spur mobile home park, 610 Jameson Ave.
According to police, other officers went to the area of 1600 Beverly to intercept Eklund and after a brief struggle, he was apprehended. While officers got Eklund off the ground, they saw a syringe on the ground. Police said Eklund had a backpack in his possession that had other narcotics in it.
Eklund was arrested in connection to the probation violation warrant, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
