Police pursuit ends with arrest

SALINA — A man was arrested in connection to multiple charges Monday after a pursuit with police.

Salina Police said the arrest stems from an incident on March 9, where a black passenger car was spotted in a grass field in the 300 block of Oakdale Drive almost hitting a woman. After the woman ran into a house, the man got out of the car and threw objects. Witnesses said they overheard the man threaten the woman.

Police said officers recognized the man as Deric Bell, 29, of Salina, from surveillance footage from someone in the area.

According to police, at 7 p.m. Monday, an officer saw a black 2008 Chevrolet Malibu in the 700 block of E. Ash Street. The Malibu turned onto Oakdale Avenue without using a turn signal.

Police said the officer attempted a traffic stop on the Malibu and the vehicle accelerated. Speeds in the pursuit reached about 60 mph.

During the pursuit, police said the the driver lost control and drove into the yard of 130 S. Front St., disabling the Malibu with front-end damage.

Police said Bell was placed into custody. A female passenger, Alexandria Moreno, 28, of Salina, was placed into custody with an outstanding warrant. Moreno told police she was the one who Bell almost hit on March 9.

Man arrested after jumping from window

PITTSBURG — A local man with multiple active arrest warrants was arrested last week on additional charges after allegedly jumping out of a second floor window of a house where police located him and running from officers.

On March 12 at about 5:15 p.m., Pittsburg police officers responded to a house at 403 E. 20th St. in response to a tip that 36-year-old Jacob Lawson — who had active warrants for his arrest for offenses including failure to appear, narcotics possession, theft, possession of stolen property and contempt of court — was at the residence.

Officers conducted a search of the residence. Lawson was located on the second floor but leapt out of a second floor window, according to a news release, and attempted to flee on foot.

An officer who had remained outside of the house pursued Lawson and caught him after a short chase.
