Three new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported Tuesday in Leavenworth County. This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the county since the beginning of the outbreak to 187, according to an update released Tuesday afternoon by the Leavenworth County Health Department.
It appears two of the three new cases involve inmates at the Lansing Correctional Facility.
Of the 187 confirmed cases in Leavenworth County, 68 have involved inmates at LCF, according to the Health Department.
As of press time, the Kansas Department of Corrections had not updated a website that reports on the number of COVID-19 cases within state prison since Monday afternoon. At that time, the KDOC reported that 71 employees at LCF have tested positive for the coronavirus. Of those, 11 had been able to return to work.
According to the local Health Department, 136 of the 187 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the county are considered active. Forty-seven people from Leavenworth County have recovered from COVID-19. Four people from Leavenworth County have died as a result of the disease.
As of Tuesday afternoon, two people in Leavenworth County were in the hospital because of COVID-19. A total of 26 people from the county have been hospitalized since the outbreak began.
The state government has launched a new website, covid.ks.gov, that provides links to data about COVID-19 cases in the state as well as how people can reduce the risk of getting the virus. The website also provides links to websites with information about unemployment benefits and searching for jobs.
