A rural Leavenworth County woman was rescued after she became stranded on a small island in the Kansas River near Linwood, according to an official with the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident was reported at 11:24 p.m. Sunday. A 47-year-old woman had entered Stranger Creek near Linwood in an inflated raft.
She planned to travel to Desoto in the raft. But the raft was punctured and became deflated, according to Leavenworth County Undersheriff Jim Sherley.
The woman became stranded on an island in the Kansas River south of Mt. Sidney Cemetery, which is located on Golden Road.
The woman’s daughter contacted Leavenworth County dispatchers and reported the woman’s location.
A water rescue team was able to pick up the woman. She declined medical treatment, indicating she was not injured, according to Sherley.
