The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Leavenworth County has reached 1,053, according to the local Health Department.


That number includes 812 cases involving inmates at the Lansing Correctional Facility as well as 67 cases involving inmates and staff at the Grossman Center halfway house in Leavenworth.


That means there has been a total of 174 of what Leavenworth County Health Department officials call community cases of COVID-19 in the county. This number represents an increase of one community case since Monday, according to an update released Tuesday afternoon by the Leavenworth County Health Department.


Of the 174 community cases, 73 are considered active at this time.


Seven people from Leavenworth County who tested positive for the coronavirus have died. This includes four inmates from the Lansing Correctional Facility.


Currently, four people from Leavenworth County who have tested positive for the virus are in the hospital. A total of 29 Leavenworth County residents who tested positive for the virus have been hospitalized since the beginning of the pandemic.


People who believe they are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 can contact the Leavenworth County Health Department, 913-250-2000, option 3, to be screened for possible testing.
