Authorities are investigating an incident that left two people with gunshot wounds at a Leavenworth residence, a police official said.
The incident was reported around 11:30 p.m. Friday in the 900 block of Third Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found two people wounded, a 48-year-old man and his 28-year-old daughter.
Both were taken to the hospital. Their injuries are considered serious but not life-threatening, Leavenworth Police Chief Pat Kitchens said.
The victims live at the residence where the shooting occurred. Police believe they were shot during an argument.
"There appeared to be some type of argument with a third person, the suspect," Kitchens said.
The chief said the victims apparently had been trying to get the suspect to leave the residence.
Two children also were at the residence at the time of the shooting but they were not injured. They were turned over to the custody of other family members.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene after the shooting.
"We are actively looking for the suspect," Kitchens said.
He said the investigation is ongoing.
