Today's installment of Throwback Thursday takes us to the southeast corner of South Main Street and Avenue D.

William Kelly moved to Hutchinson from Warsaw, Illinois in 1896. With a history of the milling business, he and William Carr founded the Monarch Mills at Ave D and Washington. In 1906, Kelly went on his own and built the Kelly Mill at 400 S. Main. This was a very large facility and soon became famous. By 1907, Kelly's Famous Flour was shipping consignments to Glasgow and Leith, Scotland.

William Kelly died in 1923 at the age of 52. After that, his son Willis Kelly took over the mill operations. The Kelly Mill continued to produce for may years but finally closed in 1968. After years of being vacant it was finally razed in June 1980.

In the late 2000's, Steve and Gina Nachtigal bought the old office building, remodeled it and operated the New Hope Counseling there. Stephen and Stephanie Miller purchased the property in October 2019 and opened Visionaries Eyecare, now addressed as 400 S. Main.
