Irene, and her twin, Agnes Giese, were born on October 1, 1928 to John M. and Irene (Kennedy) Duffin in Leavenworth, Kansas. Irene attended grade school at the Old Cathedral of Immaculate Conception and graduated high school from Saint Mary’s Academy in 1946. She then went to work for Armed Forces Cooperative Insurance Association from 1946 to 1951.
In 1947, Irene met her future husband, George Collins, through her sister, Emma Jane, and George’s best friend, John Hoins, serving as maid of honor and best man at their wedding.  George and Irene were married on June 30, 1951 at the old Immaculate Conception Cathedral.  Irene and George had four children. When her youngest child was a toddler in 1969, Irene returned to work at AFCIA where she retired in 1991.
Irene was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Parish.  In her spare time, she loved to follow local sports, to read, to bake and cook, and particularly to spend time with her family, heaping love and attention on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Irene is survived by her four children, Anne Collins, George (Kathleen) Collins III, Susan (Mike) Kenaga, and Mike (Jacinda) Collins. She was blessed with eight grandchildren, Jillian (Ryan) Brownell, Andrew Collins, Adam Collins, Collin Kenaga, Connor Kenaga, Chase Collins, Samantha Collins, Zachary Collins, and two great-grandchildren, Eden Ainsley and Ellison Irene Brownell. She is also survived by her twin sister, Agnes (Don) Giese and many nieces and nephews from her four Duffin sisters.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Immaculate Conception Church. Arrangements entrusted to Davis Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be left on Irene’s online guestbook at
