Jerry R. Collins, 77, passed away Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018. Jerry was born in Abilene, Kansas on April 13, 1941. He graduated from Abilene High School Class of 1959. During his senior year he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Immediately after graduation he went on active duty in the Marines and was stationed in San Diego, California.
After serving in the Marines he traveled the U.S. working various interesting jobs including traveling with a big top circus. He finally decided to work at a steadier job at Kansas State Penitentiary, retiring in 1998. After his retirement he went back into the circus business.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Lois Collins and a sister, Nell Jean.
Jerry is survived by a sister, Maxine Connor, Camarillo, California, a brother, Kenneth Collins, Abilene, Kansas, a son, Jeff (Misty) Collins, Leavenworth, Kansas, two daughters, April Marks, Leavenworth, Kansas, Amy Collins, Gainsville, Florida, two grandchildren, Xavier and Peyton.
He was a life member of Hancock Lode #311, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, life member of Kansas Peace Officers Association., Wichita, Kansas. He also served as Chairman of Circus Fans Association, Lorain, Ohio 1992 and 1993.
Interment at a later date in the Leavenworth National Cemetery. No visitation or service are planned at this time. Condolences may be left on Jerry’s online guestbook at Arrangements entrusted to Davis Funeral Chapel.
